Head – Special Assets Management : Job Description
Reporting to Chief Wholesale Banking Officer
Division Wholesale Banking Division
Job Purpose Pro-actively develop strategies and lead the execution for handling the Wholesale Banking classified assets, specializing in the effective resolution and recovery of distressed or non-performing assets. The position requires a strong understanding of credit analysis and working knowledge of legal process to prevent losses and maximize recovery outcomes.
Responsible for management of classified assets and/or adversely graded facilities within the Bank’s loan portfolio of diverse size and complexity in compliance with all applicable CBO laws, rules and regulation and Bank lending policies and procedures.

Principal Accountabilities • Strategic
― Monitor recovery/ regularization/ rescheduling of Classified Loans/ NPL portfolio in line with banking laws and practices, policies & procedures.
― Supervise the overall assets management process and ensure positive outcomes.
― Ability to analyse situations, strategize, select best course of action, and deliver desire outcomes.
― Analyses financial statements, reviews cash flows and other financial and non-financial data of delinquent borrowers in order to prepare efficient and effective work-out proposals
― Explore improvements in credit structure, perfect documentation discrepancies, credit enhancements viz. assignable guarantees, cash margins, assignments, seniority of charge, collaterals, cheques, etc., whichever applicable, to improve on recoverability of the debt.
― Exhibit commercial approach to resolution of problem accounts.
― Familiarity with local, regional & international legal environment, laws, rules & regulations.
― In depth knowledge of credit, operations, markets risks, Finance & Assets Liability Management.
― Formulate Budget of annual expenses of Special assets management to ensure recovery at minimum costs and maximum profit.
― Monitor proper utilization of budget and maintain the quality of risk assets and ensure periodic review.
― Work alongside the Corporate Banking business units to manage challenging clients impacting profitability of the business.
― Contribute to the improvement of the Bank\s advances portfolio, reducing exposure to weaker credits to strengthen the composition of the Asset book.
• Operational
― Overseas the disciplined collection and workout process related to special assets to minimize loan losses.
― Follow-up and regularization of past dues, and excesses over limits.
― Coordination of client’s activities with different departments of the Bank.
― Regular visits to clients for inspection of business, liaison with the owners and to ensure optimum prospect availment of the business through the Bank’s channels.
― Documentation/ updating of securities, including security valuations, renewals of insurance policies.
Liaise with Remedial team for coordinated efforts of recovery through ROP/ Legal/ Public Prosecution actions.
Liaise with fellow bankers for collaborated recovery/ debt resolution efforts.
• Organizational
― Work in coordination with other organizational units & individuals.
― Working with internal and external auditors to ensure compliance with CBO’s laws, rules and regulation and Bank lending policies and procedures.
― Direct and coordinate with internal and external legal counsels to ensure implementation of best legal strategies.
― Provide support, advice & guidance to the staff in achieving their individual, Dept. and Bank-wide performance goals.

Requirements
· Education/ Qualification ― Required: Bachelor's degree in Banking, Economics, Accounting or Business administration or related fields. ― Preferred: Master's degree in Banking and Finance, Management, or any related field; CFA or any similar certification
· Experience ― Required: Total of 12+ years of experience in Banking, assets management, relationship, risk management areas, remedial, restructuring, etc. ― Preferred: Experience in and knowledge of the GCC market
· Additional Skills ― In-depth technical knowledge of wholesale banking ― Strong understanding of financial statements, modeling and cash flow analysis ― Strategically minded with strong analytical and problem-solving skills ― Outstanding communication, interpersonal abilities, negotiation and presentation skills ― Credit and remedial management training ― Excellent organizational and managerial expertise |
